Gates manager Mark Guryn known by everyone as Gus has plenty of ambition for Oakengates Town.In an interview we explain his ambition for the club.In the 2001-02 season Gus took over as manager, with the club in the red and no players to line out in the near coming season the Gates future was looking very bleak, thanks to committee members such as Pete Lamsdale and David Sheward, Roger Holdstock the club was kept on its feet. The clubhouse was in desperate need of some attention and thanks to a lot of hard work in the close season it was ready and the bar was re-opened.Gus brought some young players and put an add in the paper for some more which made his squad for start of the season. Not a very good start and near the end of the season with the use of 64 players Gates were struggling on and off the field.Fortunately two teams dropped out and the Gates were saved yet again but it did not stop their financial problem. In the following season a lot of changes were made, the Wrekin pub in Wellington gave us a financial injection which has boosted the clubs financial status, new committee members were brought in to change the clubs misfortune and also brought a 21 strong squad for the new season.Gates now wish to try and progress into the West Midlands League but it will take alot of ground improvements and also to win the County League before we are considered.A lot of the West Midland clubs were before County league teams such as Newport Town,Little Drayton,W.Wood,ShifnalTown,Star Fc and now Wellington A wish to progress there club but i want us to follow the same way and not to be left behind even if it means to move ground. It will be hard work from the committee, management, and players but i am confident we shall be in the West Midland league within three years. And Oakengates will be around for many years to come.
